Overview of entry-level DSLR cameras
17 August 2007 - By Matjaž Intihar. Translated by Jože Svetičič.

Conclusion

I can't stress this enough – all of this is my personal opinion regarding the usability of these cameras compared to their price and the competition. As prices are likely to drop soon (particularly Canon 400D/Rebel XTi and the Nikon D40x will probably get a lot cheaper), the ratings are far from being carved in stone. However, I believe that I wrote enough for you to be able to make an informed decision as to which camera is right for you. Of course, some of you will pick the camera based on brand. As I stated before, this is quite possibly a good way of ensuring that you're happy with your choice, but overall, it might not be the best. And don't forget - there is no best camera, nor will there ever be one. Each of them has a few unique advantages. So if a camera has a feature you desperatly want, you won't mind if it lacks a feature you don't need that much. So pick whatever camera you want, just make sure it's within your budget and suited to your style of photography. Before buying, read a few reviews, ask a few people who own these cameras for advice and get advice from shop personnel. The more advice you get, the easier your choice. This article is meant to give you a broad overview of the cameras and their features. I hope I made it as objective as possible. From here on, it's all up to you. I know you’ll pick the right camera.

The Sony Alpha 700 will certainly get a warm reception from the existing Sony and Konica Minolta users, but as to those who have yet to get into the wonderfully expensive world of DSLRs, well, that remains to be seen. Let's wait till the cameras hit the shelves – with the final firmware.
